Easter Week Celebrations in Ecuador
In many countries around the world, Easter is celebrated as a religious festival, and while some set aside a weekend, Ecuador has an Easter Week. Each city has its own traditional ways of celebrating this festive period, but its general meaning and celebratory purposes remain the same. Easter Week in Ecuador is celebrated from the 16th to the 23rd of March in 2008 and it is a time where the crucifixion of Christ is remembered and His rising commemorated.
A Spectacular Journey aboard the Flotel Orellana
Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana entered Ecuador from the Pacific Ocean in 1541 and made his way along the Coca, Napo and Amazon Rivers to the Atlantic Ocean. This amazing journey earned Orellana a place in history as the first European to cross the South American continent. It is believed that he traveled this route several times in search of El Dorado, the city of gold. He was also searching in the area for a rumored nutmeg forest – a spice which was very expensive at the time. Nowadays, tourists can retrace part of the river route that Francisco de Orellana took, but in style, aboard the Flotel Orellana.
Discover Ecuadorian Wildlife at Guayllabamba Zoo
Situated in the town of Guayllabamba approximately 29 kilometers north of Quito, the 12 hectares of the Guayllabamba Zoo are home to more than 50 species of native fauna, representing all the diverse regions of Ecuador. This is the largest collection of native fauna in Ecuador that is open to the public, and approximately 17,000 people visit the zoo each month.
Ecuador Travel Mart 2008
The city of Cuenca will be hosting the Ecuador Travel Mart 2008 from 20 to 23 April. Cuenca is situated in a wide valley of the Andean Mountains, is surrounded by natural beauty and enjoys a mild climate throughout the year. It is also considered to be the third most important city in Ecuador, with a stable infrastructure and ease of accessibility. These and many other factors make Cuena a popular tourist destination and the perfect choice for hosting the Ecuador Travel Mart 2008.
